The gulls squawked loudly overhead, unperturbed by the passerby at the pier, but, Zoe couldn't help thinking, needlessly obnoxious nonetheless.
After an afternoon of lazing needlessly around her dorm room, the girl had finally made the decision to venture forth from her sunny bedroom and stroll down to the pier. At 6 in the evening, the sun was low in the sky, and it wasn't difficult to appreciate the sunset. However, the loss of sun was resulting in a drop in temperature.
Transferring her little baggie of breadcrumbs into her left hand, Zoe zipped up her hoodie over her white tee, pulling the long-sleeved, tight black garment closer to her body and tugging down the sleeves over her fingertips. The white pinstriped bermuda shorts that had seemed like such a good idea while embarking from Croatoan a half-hour earlier were now remarkably sparse.
Zoe wandered over the the edge of the water, dangling her legs off of the sidewalk as she gazed at the long way down into the bay below, watching her navy lo-tops danglings off the wall. Unconciously, the girl started humming to herself as she untied the little baggie, tossing a pinch of breadcrumbs into the water and watching with pleasure as five obnoxious sea-birds dove to wrestle for the crumbs.
