Lissa slouched in her chair. She glanced up at the round clock above the door and heaved a great sigh upon reading it and seeing that, in fact, only 3 minutes had passed since she last looked. Detentions were the absolute worst. They school board, knowing this room was going to be used for that purpose, didn’t bother purchasing any of those bright, colorful, desperately lame posters that they had up in nearly every other room in the school. The ones that have slogans like ‘Science is Power!’ strewn across them, with happy dancing cartoon cats wearing lab coats, or ‘American History!’ with that portrait of George Washington. No, instead they left the walls of Room 221-called the D-Block by some students-empty but for a rarely used chalkboard and the off-off-off-white paint favored by schools around the nation. Which was really not fair, Lissa thought. If you’re going to stick a kid in a room, you should give them something to look at other than the profanities carved into the desktop. Lissa was fidgeting in one of a mess of wooden desk and chair sets that occupied the room. Due to years of students being told to “Break it up” or “Separate, you two”, the desks and chairs were scattered around the room with no easily discernable pattern. They were usually populated with Lissa or one of her friends, but you got the occasional prep or nerd in there for getting busted skipping class or drinking in the dorms. Today Lissa was alone in the detention room. She was caught up playing with the ends of her hair when the door opened. Framed by the doorway was Faiqa Ditonno. Lissa sat up in her seat and smirked at the girl. “Hey there, Fay-kwa”, deliberately mispronouncing Faiqa’s name.

A glare shone through her eyes, as she handed the detention slip to the random teacher for the day. Faiqa absolutely hated it when her name was mispronounced or misspelled. "Take a seat near Ms. Faye, Ms. Ditonno," the teacher ordered. That was the last thing Faiqa wanted to do. With a roll of her eyes, she walkeed towards the messy chairs and sat beside Lissa Faye.
"Lissa, it's Fa-yee-cuh okay?" she said in fake sweetness, "you should really learn how to read and pronounce stuff." Faiqa dropped her Prada messenger bag on the floor and crossed her legs. Detention wasn't going to be fun.
Why was she here anyway? Oh yeah, the school's "no skin" policy. What did they care if she chose to wear a mid-rib, tight shirt that day? It wasn't like anyone would die from seeing her navel. They'd probably even like it!...Well, the males atleast. Gawd, how Faiqa hatedd that rule.

Lissa couldn't wait to see how this played out, or how long it would take before the teacher realized he had made a terrible mistake seating them right next to each other. "Yeah, I'll be sure to practice saying your name over and over, that's really the first thing on my agenda," Lissa said in a faux-cheery voice. She crossed her legs, accidentally kicking over Faiqa's messenger bag. It made an unexpectedly loud 'thump' noise as it tilted over onto it's side, which made Lissa half-giggle. She collected herself quickly and gave a nonchalant toss of her hair. "What brings you here today, anyway? Get caught with your shirt off in the library again?" She was talking about the time sophomore year when Faiqa was caught by the school librarian messing around in the stacks. The boy, unable to handle all the ragging, had since transferred out to another school. Finding out about that particular incident had been one of Lissa's favorite moments in her highschool career, and she brought it up whenever she got the chance. She raised an eyebrow at Faiqa and waited for a response.

Faiqa's jaw dropped as her $600 bag dropped to the floor. She bent down and fixed her things, making sure to put the bag away from Lissa's reach. Faiqa let out a scoff. That shirt incident was very...unappropriate to bring up. "No, I was taken in for wearing this shirt," she said coldly. It was quite true, too as mentioned in the earlier post.
Faiqa was so disappointed at Lissa. She could have been a friend but she chose to be an enemy. I mean, she had the beauty, the brains and the skills! Gawd, why'd she just have to start competing with someone like Faiqa? It just wasn't right. Faiqa's gaze fell down to her bear navel to let Lissa know what she meant. Then her eyes went back up to Lissa. Her stares were like daggers, trying to stab Lissa's rock-hard soul.
No more fake sweetness. Not when you mess with the Prada.

Lissa snickered, then said with faux sympathy, "Detention for not wearing a shirt, detention for wearing a shirt: you just can't seem to get it right, Faiqa." She pouted at Faiqa. Their exchange had gotten the teacher’s attention and he shushed them, using the universal sign for ‘shut up!’, pressing an index finger to his mouth. Lissa prided herself on getting the last word, at least for a while, and sat back in her chair. She picked up a strand of hair from her shoulder and started twirling it. If looks could kill, Lissa have been dead many times over from Faiqa’s eyes alone. Lissa couldn’t help but grin as Faiqa gave her the ol’ death stare again. It was probably not even the first time today that she had been the subject of Faiqa’s glare. They girls’ rivalry stretched back to their freshman year, and neither could remember exactly how it started, but both were far too stubborn to do anything to end it. Maybe at their 15 year class reunion they’d be able to laugh it off and make friends, but that wasn’t going to happen until they had some time to separate and cool off, and at the tiny boarding school RPA it was nearly impossible to separate yourself from anyone.

"Yeah, I don't think you do either.." she whispered, lowering her head to avoid the teacher's glare. Some other pupils had just walked in. Faiqa could tell they knew of Lissa and Faiqa's relationship because they decided to sit as far away from the duo as they could. Faiqa lowered her eyes, looking at the black flats.
Why did detention have to be so boring anyway? Couldn't they atleast have books? Faiqa shook her head at the thought and looked back to Lissa.

Lissa watched the other students walk in. No one important, it was mostly freshman, probably here for breaking curfew. They had the good luck to not be told where to sit by the teacher, probably because they were in a group and Lissa wasn't very surprised when the newcomers picked desks on the opposite side of the room from the two seniors. The rivalry between the two was nearly legendary. Lissa would not have been overly shocked if she one day discovered there was a paragraph or two about it in the school's acceptance letters. Lissa decided that to pass the time she would hassle Faiqa. See how far they could get into a verbal catfight before they were either separated or got into a real fight. "So how's your brother doing?" Lissa shot to Faiqa under her breath. While she and Faiqa's twin, Dean, had little more together than a longstanding flirtation and a few hookups, Faiqa hated any mention of the fling.

Her eyes were burning with fire, just as her soul. She hated it. The fact that her brother was getting involved with her rival, the fact that Lissa knew what made her tick, and most of all, the fact that her retarded teacher made her sit beside someone so horrid. Faiqa clenched her fists, ready for a punch...but then the random teacher turned to them. Faiqa had no choice but to lower her hand.
"He's fine," she whispered, "better off if you weren't around though." It was true actually. She really thought it was, at least. She pretended to sneeze. "Damn, you smell bad. Do you have a tissue?" she asked, referring to that time in freshman year when they found out Lissa had stopped her bra. Ofcourse, now her parts have matured and they're probably a little less than Faiqa's but still...matured. A cocky half-smile was plastered on her pink lips, dimples forming.

"He's fine. Better off if you weren't around though." Lissa grinned slyly. She wondered if Faiqa had ever bothered to even ask her brother about Lissa and him. If she had ever gotten past being offended by the concept of her brother and her rival being and went to investigate she would probably find Dean saying something like 'I have no idea what you are talking about'...
"Damn, you smell bad. Do you have a tissue?" Lissa knew what Faiqa was talking about. She patted her chest thoughtfully and then said, sarcastically, "No, seems like I'm fresh out. Sorry" Lissa thought to herself that she didn't find that reference particularly clever on Faiqa's part; she had only done it as a practical joke, and now that she and Faiqa had grown up they had the biggest 'assets' in the school. She looked at the clock again and checked the time with her cell. The clock was, sadly, displaying the correct time. Even sadder, the teacher saw Lissa holding her phone and called her up to the desk to surrender it to him for the duration of the detention. Lissa repressed the urge to let loose with a stream of obscenities and walked stiffly up to the desk and back.

"Aww, too bad," Faiqa replied with a sympathetic look. After giving a cocky smile, she turned away...that's when the teacher called Lissa. Faiqa giggled to herself as Lissa was reprimanded and sent back to her seat. It was just...awesome.
As Lissa sat down, Faiqa faced her with the same cocky smile and shaking her head. "Tsk, tsk tsk," she said slowly, "When will you ever learn?" Inside, she was seriously laughing. Seeing Lissa be told off that way and forced to surrender her phone was quite embarrassing. Even a few snickers were heard from the back of the room.

Lissa took the giggles from the other kids in stride. She even rolled her eyes at one of the kids who she knew casually. She knew they would never talk about her outside of this controlled environment. Faiqa, on the other hand... "When will you ever learn?" Lissa leaned back in her chair, took a deep breath, then leaned forward, resting her head on her hands. She turned to face Faiqa and said quietly "You better shut your mouth before I shut it for you"

"Snaps for you! You just attempted to threaten me," she said, that frikkin little smile still on her face, "Too bad, hun. It never works." With a flip of her hair, she turned away. A girl sat beside her. 'Freshmen,' she shook her head. The poor things had no clue of the highschool drama.
Faiqa eyed the girl then gave her that glare. When she'd noticed, she scurried over to the back. A terrified look was on her face. Faiqa turned back to Lissa, "Now...where were we?"

This day had started out sucky and was quickly deteriorating into straight up crap. First she was assigned a detention, then that idiot teacher had forced Faiqa to sit next to her, then her phone was taken away...That uptight little smirk on Faiqa's face, and just the fact that Faiqa was Faiqa, was just a little too much for Lissa to take. When Faiqa turned back from the freshman girl, Lissa was ready for her. Without responding to Faiqa's snarky little "Now...where were we?" comment, Lissa reached out, grabbed a handful Faiqa's hair near her scalp and cracked her across the face with an open palm. If this turned into a brawl, as it was likely to do, Lissa had the obvious upper hand- due to her upper-middle-class ballet traning she was all muscle, but despite this background she had been in a major amount of streetfights. Faiqa was a feisty little thing, but in a fair fight she didn't stand a chance against Lissa. But who ever said this was going to be a fair fight? This detention squabble could go either way.

Faiqa's eyes were instantly filled with anger, her jaw clenched as tight as her fists and her hair a mess. "Oh no you di-in't," she said with a cock of her head and flash of her index finger. Just like that, she slapped Lissa's face. A sound like WHAP had been heard. Her hand left a red print on her cheek.
Faiqa was furious inside. She hoped it would sting. She hoped it hurt. And by the looks of it, it did.

Lissa was about to make a comment on Faiqa's quasi-ghetto "Oh no you di-in't" when she slapped her. Lissa's mouth instantly dropped open and her eyes narrowed. Her face stung like hell and she probably had an imprint of Faiqa's hand on her cheek, which was not something she would ever want anywhere near her, nevermind on the side of her head. Lissa, mouth still agape, touched where Faiqa had slapped her with the tips of her fingers. Suddenly, her expression changed from shock to full-out anger. She stood up, almost knocking her chair over backwards, took a step towards Faiqa and roughly shoved the girl's shoulders. She stared down at Faiqa and said menacingly, "Do you really want to do this right now, bitch?" The other students in the room watched almost gleefully as the two senior girls glared at each other. This was RPA history in the making. The story was bound to have already spread through most the school via discreetly-sent txts on the hidden cell phones of the kids in the back of the classroom.
