Sample Post:Craig listened to her speak, feeling his tears threaten to fall at any moment. He tried to stay strong. Come on now Craig. You don't need to cry. Stay strong. Comfort Tara. You're good at ignoring your own feelings to help others. Come on. Keep it together. He nodded a few times during her life story. His heart seemed to snap in two as she finished.
"Your Dad too? I thought mine was the only one who turned his back on his child and turned to alcohol." He shook his head. "For the past two years I've been the parent in our relationship. Going home late at night to find him passed out on the couch, a half empty bottle and a glass sitting on the end table." Craig hung his head and sighed. "It's not exactly the easiest thing to witness."
As Tara's tears fell, Craig's heart finally did tear in half. He let a few tears fall before wiping them away with the back of his hand. Something about girls crying had always sent him into hysterics when he was upset. In this situation, he tried so hard to fight them back. He didn't want to lose it in front of Tara. Not yet at least. Not the first time they met.
"Tara, it's ok." Craig stood and wrapped his good arm around her. He tried to comfort her as she hid her face. It was obvious she didn't want him to see her looking so vulnerable, just like he didn't want her to see him that way. "There's nothing you could have done. Believe me. It's not your fault, don't blame yourself."“I’m sorry, I couldn’t stop talking...please forgive me, I’m alright...I’m,”
"You don't need to apologize. Sometimes, when you're talking about things like that, the words just keep coming out." Craig stepped back from her and smiled, very weakly. "Don't ever apologize. I know I do the same thing. Everyone does. You can't prevent that." As their eyes met again, Craig seemed to be slightly comforted. He wasn't sure what it was, but he was going to figure this girl out.
"Your welcome. Thank you for telling me about you. I can imagine it was harder for you to go through what you did." Craig returned her one armed hug and held her close. As he closed his eyes, he felt a few more tears push their way out of his eyes. His spirits began to lift slightly as they stood there.
As the hug broke, the weak smile returned to Craig's face. "What a pair we make, right? We meet in awkward circumstances, talk and laugh for a little bit, then suddenly we're crying together about similar pasts." Craig let a single laugh shake his shoulders and escape his mouth. "Never underestimate life. Curve balls are lurking everywhere."

D.O.B: November 11, 1990
Gender: male
Grade: junior

It's All About YOU
Celebrity Portrayal: Andrew McMahon
Physical Appearance:
Lark looks like your average teenager. Well maybe not today’s teenager, but a teenager none the less. Contrary to his unusual name, Lark really isn’t all that odd… now. He is a bit annoyingly average actually. Sure, his shoulders are higher than most of the other guys, but he’s really quite average looking.
5’ 11 3/4” is the magic height. Lark tells everyone he’s six foot just because it’s easier to say, but people still get the point. He’s tall. Not exactly the tallest, he doesn’t get awkward looks from passer bys on the street, but taller than others.
His features are what makes Lark describe himself as average. His black hair sits short on top of his head and spiked up. A hat can usually be found on his head, but there is the off chance that Lark bothered to take care of himself in the morning.
To complement his dark hair, Lark possesses a very pasty complexion that he can’t seem to rid himself off. It neither tans nor burns, it just stays white. Although, the positive side is that his pale skin makes his gray eyes and eyebrow piercing pop out more. He likes this effect, so his skin color has been bothering him less and less lately.

Clothing Style: Lark is definitely a t-shirt and jeans type of kid. Maybe his t-shirt becomes a polo shirt four out of seven times, but the point is the same. His style reflects his personality very well. A laid back boy wears a variation of the same thing everyday. A comfortable pair of jeans, a plain t-shirt (sometimes even two or three), and his favorite pair of shoes. His shoes that he's rarely seen without are his plain black low top chucks. He has recently laced them with one white (right) and one orange (left) lace, but almost everyone knows why.

Personality:
Introverted. Marked by interest in or preoccupation with oneself or one's own thoughts as opposed to others or the environment; shy or reserved. If Lark had a quarter for every time he’s heard that word used to describe him, well, Bill Gates would have an opponent for richest man in the US. It’s not exactly something he chooses to be, but he can’t help it. Lark would rather fit notes together artfully than kick a ball around a patch of grass. There’s no harm in that… is there? Besides, he’s more of a thinker than a doer.
Curious. Eager to learn or know; inquisitive; prying; meddlesome. This is the second most accurate word used to describe Lark. I mean, you don’t get to be in the top 5% of your grade by not digging deeper into every subject. It’s not his fault that he just sort of feels the need to know everything about every subject matter there is. His favorite subjects are his friends. If he tried to scrutinize and pick them apart any more than he already does, he probably wouldn’t have the few friends he has.
Optimist. One who usually expects a favorable outcome. Dr. Cale has called him this a few times. Maybe he admires the way Lark doesn’t believe that this disease [see history] is going to take his life. Sure, he’s thinned out a bit [maybe 20 pounds or so] but that doesn’t mean he’ll waste away tomorrow. Quite on the contrary, Lark has gone and made a point of trying to be more outgoing now that he knows he, unlike most guys, might not make it out of college. This has motivated him to at least try to get out more.

P.O.B: ((Where they came from))
History: Michael Austin met the girl of his dreams, Brooke Gallagher, while they were in college. In fact, they met freshman year and were engaged by junior year. Something about the way they got along seemed to mesh just right to start a little family. And little was the perfect way to describe the Austins. Brooke and Michael had one child. One baby boy with an eccentric name. Lark Jamison Austin.
This boy was going to live up to the strange name he was given. This was a known fact from the beginning. LJ, as he was called by his parents, grew up quicker than the other kids. He learned to walk and talk sooner than most and caught on quicker at preschool. As if that wasn’t enough, while other kids ran around on the macadam on the playground, six year old Lark climbed onto a piano bench and started to be interested in the different noises the white and black things made. It wasn’t long before his parents figured it out and signed him up for lessons.
Lark spent almost all his free time practicing the piano. Sure he had friends [neighbors, some from school, other students of his piano teacher]. Hell, he even had nicknames [LJ, Jamison, Austin, Larkster]. This was not a lonely, deprived, pathetic child. He was just doing the minimum socially and getting by. He really didn’t mind. And so it went for ten years.
It wasn’t long ago [in fact it was January, right after his birthday] that Lark and the rest of the Austin relatives received some news that they could have done without for a few more years; however, at the same time they were all grateful to hear the hopeful, “We have caught it in time.” You see, Lark was diagnosed with a rare type of Leukemia. He almost managed to finish out the school year, but had to miss the last week or so for treatment. Maybe that’s how everyone found out. That didn’t mean he didn’t hear the same questions day in and day out. “Yes, I did finish my work so I’ll be a junior in September.” “Yes, this is my real hair, it has already grown back.” “No, I’m not getting more chemo.”
Lark Jamison Austin refuses to talk about it unless he’s forced to. In his opinion, “It’s my problem. Let me deal with it. If I want you to help or talk me through something, I’ll ask. I’m a big boy, please treat me like one.” Michael and Brooke don’t know how to feel about their son’s perspective on it, but they trust him enough to be responsible. Since his diagnosis, however, one thing has changed about Lark. He is now never seen without his new favorite accessory. It’s a simple orange bracelet promoting finding a cure for his disease.
